Relocating is a common experience for many young scientists. Researchers can broaden their scientific expertise, discuss new ideas, and create meaningful relationships and collaborations by moving abroad, or staying in their own country to contribute more for the scientific ideas, tracking the movement of early-stage of young researchers around the world would create a complex network joining the most diverse places, connecting the researchers to the old laureate.

Can you please introduce yourself and how you where been selected among the young researchers to be at this wonderful event HLF 2022 to us?

My name is Dr. Chinwendu Emilian Madubueze. I am a senior lecturer in department of Mathematics, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Nigeria.

Could you tell me about your area of expertise and your recent research activities in your country and abroad?

My research interest is Mathematical epidemiology. I am currently working on mathematical model of monkeypox and Onchocerciasis. I have many collaborations inside and out Nigeria. I have collaborations in Zimbabwe, South African, India and America.  For Nigeria, I have been in Federal University Ofe Oye, Ekiti State and my department (colleagues and students). Most of these collaborations I met them in conferences, workshops and training school.

I always like to study mathematics. My research started during my NYSC when my undergraduate project supervisor published my thesis and included my name. I was excited when he published the thesis. The benefits are much. It gives me opportunities to contribute to my area of expertise, mentoring students  and attend conferences and workshops early in my research.  

How many on-going projects you are working on that will help you to a higher level?

There are four on-going projects I am working on. There are mathematical modelling of Lassa fever virus, monkeypox virus, onchocerciasis disease and Marburg virus. 

As a computational scientist or Mathematicians you are not tied to a physical location to carry out your research. Do you find working alone like this challenging?

Yes. Working alone is challenging because when you work with researchers of like minds, it gives you more ideals and different approaches to a problem. It also promotes networking and more collaboration. 

How many countries have you travel to carry out your research or attended an international conference in the last 5 years?

I have travelled to five different countries.

Do you have any tip for those who are now thinking about a career in scientific research?

It depends what the person is aiming at. First, you must have interest in scientific research. Start anywhere in your research when you have ideals. There is no time to start than now. Just get a mentor that will motivate you. Work with other researchers so you will learn how to write scientific research. Believe in yourself and be focus.
